  • If, IF, I wanted to add a 40MHz FPU to an ACA1233n board, what exact specification components would I need? PGA 6882 and crystal. Thanks!

  • Please understand that there is no support for FPU installation. You're on your own.

Crystal should be a 5V type, matching the actual frequency of the 881/882 silicon. The solder-jumper for FPU clock can be closed and crystal oscillator omitted if you want to run the FPU at the same clock speed as the CPU. The solder jumper MUST NOT be closed if you choose to install a crystal oscillator.

Note that most of the faster-speed FPUs on the market are fakes - either re-labelled slower 882s, or even 881s re-labelled to be high-frequency 882s.

  • Thanks Jens, as I said, “if”. I was just thinking about it, but nice to know what I need if I decided to in the future. 👍🏻
