It works on one of my A1200s so the card itself is OK. I tried fiddling with the expert options and disabled everything I could - it then booted to a white screen and got stuck. I think there must be a clash of memory addresses somewhere.

I thought I'd try a TF1260 on the A1200 expansion port of the aca500plus. Unfortunately it doesn't boot, just an orange, then blue, then green screen with some numbers and an error code EXC5.

I note in the autoconfig page of the system information menu it says "aca500plus autoconfig board not found, possible cause : your system contains incompatible expressions".

Which is fair enough, only recent ACA12xx boards are officially supported.

But...

Is there any scope to update the aca500plus firmware to work with it? I'm happy to post you the TF1260 to have something to try it on.

I swapped it with one of the other case screws, which seems to work.

I don't think Commodore had the best quality control when they built these things!

It seems to have original screws everywhere else but this poor A600 has had a hard life judging by the state of it.

I don't know if this is a problem with the A604n as such, but I can't get the clockport extender to sit under the floppy bracket. It's like the screw is too short - it just goes round and round in the hole. Without the extra height of the clockport extended, the floppy drive bracket screws in tightly. Do I need to find a longer screw, and can anyone point me in the direct of what the screw spec is (diameter, thread pitch etc)?

The stealth mode reverts everything back to the 'base' A500 which is lovely to see. I can't find a way to get out of 68000 mode back into '030' mode without doing a power cycle - the menu option is red. Am I missing something?

So it turns out that it does work with the Z2 card, by some miracle of autoconfig and generosity on behalf of whoever wrote the firmware for the ungainly stack of accelerators.

I guess the issues before were either bad connection or power related.

Now I'm online in glorious 24 bit colour at 1024x768

I see in SysInfo that there's a board at 0xee.0000 from manufacturer 4626, product 73 (iComp?) ; this is the address for the X-surf-500 according to the register info page on the wiki. It shows up even when the X-surf-500 isn't connected. I guess this is causing the clash?

The accelerator and Z2 card have been playing nicely for over a year so it seems strange that it should start misbehaving now.

Yes, although not very tight as the instructions were very clear on zero-force insertion and not over tightening. I'll give it another try.

An unsupported configuration aside, is there any reason to exclude it working with a Z2 card? If it's simply not possible then I think I'll need to return it.

The presence or not the Z2 card doesn't affect the start-up behaviour. I've tried it both ways - the X-surf-500 causes instability.

I have a rev 6a A500 which was working very happily with a 1st gen ACA500plus + ACA1221, with a "Matze" graphics card on a Zorro-Adaptor. I just bought an X-surf-500 to complete the setup and it's all gone wrong after installation. From what I can tell the X-surf-500 has done bad things to the ACA500plus.

Details :

1st boot with X-surf-500, amiga doesn't boot at all.

2nd boot, after wiggling all connectors, the DisMo gets to 14 and stops

Unplug everything, start again.

Repeated attempts with / without the Z2 card eventually gets to the ACA500plus's boot screen, pressing F1 to start booting the default config makes DisMo count to A3, then everything goes black. No CF activity on either card, no floppy noises.

A rather unscientific process of plugging in things at random has got it roughly back to where it was, but it's not as stable. It can take a few reboots to get started now, whereas it used to spring into action.

I've not been brave enough to try again with the X-surf-500. Is it possible that it causes a clash with the Z2 card, or is it on a different address space entirely?
