  • Hey All,

Does anyone know if this ACA500Plus case from PlexiLaser is able to accommodate the ACA1221lc as well?

    Thanks!

Edited once, last by Jens: Commercial link removed - I don't want to deal with the legal implications. ().

  • I believe so, yes. That's what the extra bit at the back is for. I know I've seen Youtube videos where people have A1200 accelerators in there just fine.

I certainly HOPE so, at least, since I just purchased an ACA1234 to go in that very case. :)

But at the risk of being called out for being horribly wrong, yes, it will.

[edit] Here's a screengrab from a video with an ACA1233 in one, if that helps. [/edit]

  • Haha, thanks… a little after the fact maybe but same here, got the ACA500Plus, got the case and just ordered an ACA1221lc 😆

  • Yes. It works perfectly. I have a ACA122lc connected in to my ACA500 in a ACA500Plus case. No issues. Took me like 5 min to put it all together.

  • If anyone could try the ACA1234 in that Plexilaser case, we'd have a result for the ACA1240/1260 as well, as that is exactly the same size, down to a tenth of a millimeter.

The cover is off at the moment so I can install my X-Surf 500, but this is my shiny new ACA1234 in my ACA500plus Plexilaser case. It fits perfectly.

  • It can be open if required, but it fit perfectly with the rear plate on. That being said, I've not put a Compact Flash card in it yet; I don't know if that will extend beyond the ACA1234.

  • Greetings, here's a picture of mine with the 1221 inside the Plexilaser case with the cover on. Everything fits and looks great.

  • Hi All,

Here is my partially assembled Plexi ACA Case + ACA500Plus + ACA1221lc.

    But please note...
with the ACA1221lc, there is no way to fix the 1221 to the case, as none of the holes align (I marked where the hole is on the case) so I have a piece of styrofoam holding up the 1221. So far so good :)

  • I have the ACA500Plus and ACA1234, and I just received the ACA500Plus case from Plexilaser. The ACA500Plus mounts securely in the case, but the mounting hole in the case does not align with the ACA1234 board. As you can see in the picture, using a screw at mounting point D will hit the PCB. As a workaround, I simply glued the two 3mm distance rings (acrylic spacers provided by Plexilaser) to the two corners of the board so they rest on the bottom of the case. However, the board can still flex up since nothing is secured to the case. I sent a message to Plexilaser about this and thought I would also post it here in case anyone is thinking about ordering the case.

  • They're probably using old dimensions from the ACA1232 and ACA1220 boards. I believe I used the same mount holes on the ACA1233 and ACA1233n, but the ACA1234 has so much more hardware that I had to move the mounting hole. The holes near the CPU (for people who want to use a cooler) have been the same on all 68030 boards since the ACA1232.

  • Hello, I would like to share some experiences with installing ACA500plus, X-Surf-500, and ACA1240/60 into Acrylic housing for the ACA500plus from Plexilaser, which I bought last month.

If you only want housing for ACA500plus, there will be no problem, as there will be plenty of space left in the housing. If you connect ACA1240/60, the space will be very tight at the rear, but that doesn't matter.

Unfortunately, if you want to use the X-Surf-500, there will be no room to attach a UTP cable with a connector that could be screwed to the back of the housing. I solved this as shown in the last picture, i.e., with a short cable and a UTP connector. It's not aesthetic, but practical. My cable is store-bought, 25 cm long, and I plan to replace it with a handmade one in time. Purchased cables have a connector cover that gets in the way a bit between the X-Surf-500 and the ACA1240/60 cooler. It is slightly pressed into the ACA1240/60 cooler. It's not that big of a problem, but if you want to disconnect the cable in the future, it's not very convenient. When I make my own cable without a connector cover, it will be easy to connect/disconnect. The cable I plan to make will be 30 cm long and I will run it under the turbo card, purely for aesthetic reasons. A 25 cm cable is not long enough for this.

The ACA1240/60 has two connectors for extra power from the floppy drive. Unfortunately, the connectors are pressed against the bottom glass of the housing, which raises the back of the ACA1240/40 card a little. The ACA1240/60 bends a little in the ACA500plus connector. It's not a big problem, just don't be surprised.

There may be cards for the ACA500plus that can be attached with a screw. This is not possible with the ACA1240/60. There is a hole in the housing, but it would need to be moved a few millimeters and a longer screw would need to be used in the ACA1240/60. My card is only inserted into the ACA500plus, but that doesn't matter. These issues could probably be resolved with the housing manufacturers, but I am satisfied with the resulting combination of acrylic housing, ACA500plus, X-Surf-500, and ACA1240/60.
