  • Plug in the USB cable to the C64RMK2 and your Laptop, power on the C64. If you never did this before you should hear the "ding" sound that indicates Windows found a USB device. Now look in the Device Manager if it is there. Perhaps it shows with an exclemation mark, that means windows has no driver for it - put the Laptop online, right-click the entry and choose "update driver" (or whatever its called). It should install the driver and then the exclemation mark should disappear and the device should work. If the entry doesnt appear, use "search for devices" (or similar) somewhere in the device manager menus (sorry i forgot where exactly).

As a last resort you can get the driver from the prolific website - but i'd try as above first - http://www.prolific.com.tw/US/…FileID=133&pcid=85&Page=0

  • Also, note that Windows will assign just about "any" COMx number to the virtual serial port, and this number may even change if you connect it to a different USB port of the same computer. So if the exclamation mark next to that Prolific chip driver is not there, you might just be looking for "the right COM number".

  • Thanks. It worked well and I'm in.

I've 2 real 8580 on my C64R MKII. To hear 2SID songs with the second at d420, is correct this configuration?

    A L

    S 4

Because I can't hear demos like Game of Thrones or Blade Runner...

  • Ok but both melodies, and I imagine the rest that uses 2 SIDs, don't work.

Where have I made the mistake?

  • You should start with linking to those Demos so i can have a look :) Are you sure they actually support 2 SIDs?

  • Next I tryed the same configuration with 2 ARMSIDs, the special Reloaded edition.

With a Ultimate 1541II they works perfectly but with the Chameleon, the Armsid config program doesn't found the Armsids

I imagine that then the audio configuration in the TC64 is not correct

Get me out of doubts ;D

  • first, the "Real Stereo Chip" setting must match the hardware, so it is correct. when this matches the hardware, you can use the "SID Emulation" setting to remap the SID chips to other addresses, so you dont have to change this setting in the Reloaded.

I have no idea how the ARMSID configuration program works - you might have to disable the stereo sid in chameleon alltogether (both settings).

  • Yeah, no idea then - is that config program available for download? Preferably with source and/or documentation of how the config stuff works?

  • Here is the info:

    <link removed>

The file is the one at the botton left of this link

    arm2sid-fw312-with-cfgutil.zip

Edited once, last by Tobias: no links to other shops please ().

  • I found this, which gives some insights:

    - It writes to the (non existing) SID registers $1d-$1f

    - it reads from registers $1b-$1c (osc3/env3)

This probably fails because chameleon does not forward the reads to the non existing registers. I'll have a look if/how this can be fixed

Just to make sure we are not looking at the wrong thing - does the config program work on the MK2 at all (without chameleon)?

  • Yes. As said before ,I can configure ARMSIDs and execute the demos linked before with a Ultimate 15411 II attached on my C64R MKII but the TC2 ( the cartridge I normally use), I can't both

  • Not even run the Stereo tunes? Didnt you write in #10 that it works? With the same config it should also work with the ARMSIDs, i dont see why it wouldnt *shrug*

  • Here is a mess with the C64MK 2, the TC64, the SIDs and the ARMSIDs

The only configuration that doesn't work is the C64R MK2 + TC64 + ArmSID. All the other work well

  • So with the exact same settings in both Chameleon and the C64RMK2, stereo tunes work with the regular SIDs, but do not work with the ARMSIDs? That makes no sense *shrug*

One thing that would be interesting to know... if you put only one ARMSID into the MK2, then configure the chameleon for "mono" - does the config program work now?
