Not that it is needed but I would like to have it there for "eyecandy" in the case, can I still have it connected with the ACA500+?
It is indeed "not needed", and making the whole thing wider and having it consume more power, leaving the officially-supported config is really not a good idea. The ACA500plus is developed to be connected to the A500 directly, with nothing in between. Anything else is not recommended and we don't officially support it.
