  • I have to admit that I panicked a little when I read this announcement earlier in the year. Especially the part about customers refusing charges. Whoever you are, just wow... how rude. I'm surprised that anyone in our small sphere would treat iComp like that.

I also completely missed this part:

We can therefore only offer shipping to the US via forwarding services if the payment is done with wire transfer.

I'd never used a forwarding service before, so I guess it didn't register.

Anyhow, I've just paid for an order via wise with "ShipGerman" as the forwarding service. The order arrived in a few days via FedEx without any extra charges.

I'm not recommending this approach or company (others should conduct their own research) but wanted to share a success story, in case it's helpful to someone.

I hope the situation changes in the future, and iComp can ship directly again. In any case I'm still a happy customer, even if it means jumping through a few extra hoops. 🍻

  • Thanks! I sure hope that the situation improves, and there's reasons for hope. After all, the word "impeachment" is hear more often (not just for Trump, but now also for Pete Hegseth), and the mid-term elections aren't too far away. With the current sentiment in the US population, there's good chances that we'll have much more relaxed Christmas celebrations all over the planet this year. After all, the dementia of Trump is really hard to miss, and comitting war crimes can't be the distraction from the Epstein files forever.

This may be a completely distorted view from the European side of the pond. The only thing I'm certain about is numbers, and these don't add up selling directly to customers in the US at the moment.

  • Not a distorted view at all. These people are psycopaths hell-bent on destroying the system and pillaging what they can, while they can. Hegseth is essentially a drunken skinhead, just as incompetent as the rest of them.

On that note, I'm not confident that they're intelligent enough to hijack the system completely or permanently. So yes, let's hope for that Christmas toast, perhaps over a Picasso V. ^^

  • Picasso V

That was a temporary, internal project name. Current name is "Iris RTG". Using the Picasso 5 name would let people expect a superset of the Picasso 4 features, which we won't have.

  • I want to eventually be able to order your products again so I hate to disappoint you but nothing will substantially change before Christmas unless Trump dies before then. If the Democrats win the House, which is a real possibility, the House will likely impeach Trump but the likelihood of that being passed by the Senate is slim to none.

I'm working with Thomas from Amiga of Rochester, who has imported iComp products again. We're still waiting for the tariff invoice to come in from DHL express (they say it's likely later this week) - till then, the prices in his store are set to conservative values, so they're covering all possible tariffs, fees and additions.

To all those who have ordered from us since mid-last year, I've read in this article that there is now a portal where you can claim back all the tariffs that you've paid. However, this probably involves getting the actual invoice from UPS, which has been a challenge to those whom I've talked to - it really seems like UPS leadership is Trump-aligned. After all, they did have a "mild condemnation" of the January 6th events on their page, and removed it when Trump was re-elected. While this is a bad idea in the first place (the internet doesn't forget!), it clearly shows where they stand, so I'll continue to work with DHL express for US reseller shipments, although they charge a bit more. I'm also working on adding other carriers to our shop, so we're not feeding too much money to a Trump-aligned business.

  • This is very unfortunate. I've heard from others about continuing problems with DHL in this regard.

It's strange, the Chinese shippers seem to have for the most part handled it without a hitch, often with the duties being paid on their end. I do think they tend to do things like under-declare the value - they have a closet of tricks to make it work.

As to how we ended up with a 🤡 honking his nose at the world...

  • I've heard from others about continuing problems with DHL in this regard.

Is that DHL, or DHL express?

China is a different ball game. They bundle shipments and start negotiating with carriers at 300.000 parcels per month.

  • It's a situation where I think DHL was handling the US side of things but on a closer look I'm really not sure what was meant. So if it's "last mile" I guess that means DHL Express?

  • Guesses won't take you far. If we really intend to act on information, it's got to be first-hand with paperwork to back it up. I won't make any decision on hearsay.
