Has anyone connected to a 1081 with a Video->SCART cable?

  • Hi All,

I can connect to C64Mk2 to a 1081 monitor with a composite 8-pin DIN to SCART cable and get a good picture, but have not been able to get a picture with an 8-pin DIN S-Video to SCART cable. Has anyone else got this to work please? I think I read somewhere that the SCART input on the 1081 doesn't do S-Video, just RGB and Composite?

    Thanks!

  • The 1084 has luma/chroma RCA inputs, but the 1081 only has a composite RCA input and scart (no luma/chroma RCA inputs).

Also, apologies for the bad typing of the title for this thread. embarrassing!

Changed the title of the thread from “HJa anyone connected to a 1081 with an -Video CART cable?” to “Has anyone connected to a 1081 with a Video->SCART cable?”.
  • As usual with Commodore, there are different versions of the 1081 monitor. There are versions that are identical to the 1084, where the only difference is really what the tube looks like: 1084 has a non-reflecting surface, while the 1081 is glossy. If you have a version that does not have the RCA inputs, then the SCART input will carry those signals. What's identical with both monitors is that you need to put the switch(es) into the right position. While the 1084 has that selector switch on the front, I've seen 1081 monitors that have that switch next to the Scart connector. Just try "the other" switch position to see if you get a picture.

  • Thanks Jens! I can get a black and white picture from an SVideo SCART connector, but not colour from the C64. I assume that means the Luma signal is connected, but no chroma on my 1084. I think I read something in my net surfing that there may be some kind of conflict with the RGB pins, but will need to find the article again as I may have read it out of context.

  • RGB pins are different from the (S-)Video pins. From your description, this sounds like you've connected the Luma signal, but not the Chroma signal. So before you dive too deep into the weeds of Scart pinout, you might want to make sure that the cable is correct, and the monitor is properly set to use whatever that cable is wired for (Luma/Chroma=S-Video, if composite, which only requires a single signal, but a different switch setting at the back of the monitor).
