  • Hello

I'm banging my head against the wall with my Amiga 1200 and wondering if someone who has a similar setup may be able to offer some advice.

I have an Amiga 1200 with:

    • KS 3.2.2 ROMS Running AmigasOS 3.2.2.1
    • Blizzard 603 060/PPC board
    • Voodoo 3 3000 PCI card Grex PCI board
    • The CyberPCI library 2.2 from the grex.amigaworld.de flashed to my PPC board.
    • I have tried both the 68040/60.library files from the 3.2 install and from grex.amigaworld.de
    • The latest P96 provided by Jens installed with the Voodoo chosen.
    • I have not got Blitzkick or BPPCFix installed right now (I need to read up about them to understand them better)
    • I can see the PCI board in the early PPC menu.
    • I can see the Voodoo 3 listed in the Show Config tool in Workbench and it shows the $80000000
    • The Amiga is presently plugged into an external scan doubler so I can see the standard output on a modern screen
    • I have an older LCD screen connected up with VGA cable to the Voodoo.
    • Randomly I see the standard Amiga output appear on the screen connected to the Voodoo occasionally

I cannot seem to get P96 to detect the Voodoo. In the preferences it says the board is not detected.

If I manually run the monitor file I get: '96: Could not create graphics board context for “Voodoo”, please check your 96 installation.'

Could anyone offer me some advice please?

    Thanks

  • No idea about GRex, but the 68040/060 libraries are newer on Aminet. I fear that this won't chenge the situation, though, as it very much sounds like a contact problem or a defective GRex board. Does a different PCI card work in a PCI slot?

    Jens

  • BPPCFix is a tool to "power off" powerpc library from Phase 5 so you can use WarpOS one.

There is also a BPPCFix040 tool which "power off" also 040/060 libraries installed in the flash of the BlizzardPPC.

I don't own a G-Rex card, I have my PowerTower with BlizzardPPC/060 and BVision cards.

I use Blizkick to map a 3.9 Kickrom file which I also patched with BPPCFix so I can use my standard OS3.9 with WarpOS and CyberGraphX drivers.

Blizkick is a tool to map kickfiles with eventually patches using the maprom function of Blizzard cards, but it's no more updated from years...

I know that G-Rex cards may have problems with BlizzardPPC cards Rev.0.

They work better with BlizzrdPPC cards from DCE (Rev. 2)

Anyway you have to use at least BPPCFix in your Startup-Sequence to "poweroff" ppc library from Phase5/DCE installed in the flashrom card.

    Then you can use WarpOS.

Install Picasso96 2.1 from ElBox site which has a Voodoo driver, then you can make updates and verify if all works.

  • Jens, I've not tried another PCI card yet, was focused on the Voodoo, but I've got an Ethernet card to try, thanks.

DanyPPC, Thanks for the summary on BPPCFix and Blizkick. I shall be sure to add BPPCFix if I get past the Voodoo issue.

You're right about the Rev0 issues. I've read that the high the PPC speed the more likely this is the case. I have seen all this working previously many years ago. Half my problem is remembering how and with which software.

My A1200 has been recently recapped but I might recap my Grex also.

Thanks for the Elbox website tip, I shall give that a try next!
