  • Hi,

what could be the reason for the Indivision AGA Mk3 to not be able to re-read the configuration from the monitor plugged to it?

I’m struggling to make it work while connected to an Elgato HD60x for capturing the signal. And i guess, it’s an EDID related issue, but not sure.

When connected directly to my Ilyama monitor, i can see the picture, but when traversing the HD60x i get a « no signal » error.

But even connected directly to the monitor, i cant read the EDID from it.

I can configure the EDID behaviour of the capture card, and my idea was to get the EDID of the monitor and force it in the capture card using the bin generated file. But i’m not even sure it’s related.

Changed the title of the thread from “Can not read EDID from monitor” to “AGA Mk3 - Can not read EDID from monitor”.

This is definitely related, as the Elgato box most likely doesn't have an EEPROM with EDID information. The Indivision tool does read fairly deep into these EEPROMs and finds modes that are buried in different layers of the structure. Not sure how the Elgato box implements that if you say that it's configurable. In any case, I'd try the simple standards first.

Another simple thing to try would be a different cable: EDID information is transferred over separate lines in the VGA/HDMI cable, so if you are using different cables for your capture box and for your monitor, this may also explain why EDID doesn't work. Since your monitor supports EDID, you might want to take that cable and plug it into the Elgato box, or test the Elgato cable with the monitor and see if EDID works with it.

    Jens

  • HI Jens, thanks for your prompt reply. The Elgato box has quite advanced EDID information on the contrary, offering a passthrough solution for monitoring the image on another monitor, you can use a default EDID (like 1080p), or merge it with the display, limit it to the display, or import your own.

I also captured the EDID information from the Monitor, made it a .bin file, and imported it in the Elgato box : nothing.

I tried everything, even multiple HDMI cables (i have dozens of them, none worked)

I also bought several capture devices offering passthrough, to be sure :

    - I bought the NZXT HD60 Signal : No signal

    - An ELgato 4K X : No Signal

    - A chinese crap Anyoyo : No Signal

Interesting thing, i also tried (without passthrough) :

    - ELgato Cam Link : No Signal

    - a crappy old USB video capture i had in a drawer somewhere : Signal!! and so it worked.

I'm clueless now. It works only withy one old capture crappy card, but none of the new ones. :/

FYI : Regarding the "Re-Read Monitor Display Data..." menu : it newer worked with my card, whatever monitor i plug" it always says, "Could not read display information."

  • We're dealing with a simple I2C interface - EDID is really not rocket science. I have no idea how this can be messed up in a way that it works with a monitor, but not with the capture device "in between" - other than the capture device not accepting I2C. We may be able to change the timing on that I2C bus, but pwsoft would have to check what timing he's actually using. Who knows - maybe the capture devices expect a rather slow or fast timing?

    Jens

  • Are you saying that not only EDID isn't working, but the capture box doesn't see the HDMI output? If so, please try to change audio settings, as the audio frequency has great influence on monitor compatibility.

    Jens

  • My advanced settings are "Pure DVI, no Audio"

and on the capture box side, i set "Analog Audio"

  • You're not the only customer who is using Indivision AGA MK3 with a capture card - you confirm that everything is working when a monitor is connected, but not when the capture card(s) are connected. Maybe it's just the output mode that you have chosen? Did you try a lower resolution generic output mode without V-Syncing? Did you try an auto resolution mode?

    Jens

  • I tried many (without vsync, with) autoresolution, lower upper, but i'll insist and try again everything.

But, just a question : why could be the reason the "Re-read..." menu, whatever i plug answers "Could no read Display information" ?

  • why could be the reason the "Re-read..." menu, whatever i plug answers "Could no read Display information" ?

The best explanasion is the one you've already falsified: Bad cable. The second-best explanation will have to be answered by other users of capture devices, or by the makers of that device:

    1. can other users read EDID information from such a device?

    2. what I2C frequency does the device accept on the EDID signals?

Please udnerstand that this is going beyond regular product support. You've already confirmed that Indivisino AGA MK3 is OK, as it works fine with the prime target devices: Monitors. We have neither tested capture devices here, nor did you read any information about us supporting Indivision AGA MK3 for such devices. I just happen to remember that a few Youtubers use capture devices, but I know nothing about their settings.

    Jens

  • let me rephrase my question : the "Re-read..." menu doesn't work, whatever thing i plug to the card : a monitor, a capture box, a TV, .... even when using 10 different cables.

  • Try re-seating the 22-pin cable that connects the flicker fixer and the HDMI/VGA board. The EDID signals are on the two last pins of the connector. If it's not fully plugged in, this might be the source of your contact problem.

    Jens

  • unfortunately, it's well plugged and no better result, even after unpluggin it and pluggin it. The last thing i can test, is to change the 22-pin cable, but i don't have a spare yet...

I'll buy one and we'll see

    Jens

Hi Jens, FYI, a few days ago i just ordered a new AGA Mk3 (MediaPod). I decided to do that as i wanted to be definitely sure.

I just plugged the new AGA Mk3 in my Amiga, and everything worked fine in the first try.

I can read the EDID with absolutely no issue (from the monitor, or the capture device)

I can display the image through the Elgato HD60x capture device

And as a bonus i also tested on :

    - an Elgato 4K X

    - the NZXT HD60 Signal

    - and the Anyono 4K60 HDR

All of them are working well with the new card.

So it was definitely an issue with the card itself.

We can now be sure, and you now know that your card is working well with this kind of device.
