  • Hi awesome ppl....Found out about the ACE2 A500 chip ram upgrade last night ......instantly thought of my A500 with green screen (chipram error)......Would thr ACE2 bypass this problem ? as it stops the on board chip ram being used and also replaces the Agnus chip....?

    Thanks :/:/:/

  • ACE2 may or may not fix this - the general recommendation is to make the computer work properly before you install any new hardware. Your green screen issue may result from a number of things, and you should make sure what the source of your problem is.

The Agnus socket is a source of problems very often. If there is a contact problem, the computer does not see enough chip mem and displays this with a green screen (which does not need any chip ram). Please remove the Agnus and clean the socket, check it for cracks and take a close look at the pins in the corners which may be pushed outwards. Pull them inwards towards where the chip is normally located if you belive they don't make contact - this would be required for ACE2 as well.

Yes, many of the contacts are not even used by ACE2, so the probability of it working is higher than with the original Agnus chip due to the lower amount of contacts used, but this can never lead to saying "yes, it'll work".

There can also be a fault in the "data path" circuit of your main board (very common on A500+ boards where the RTC battery is close to those four chips), or even a short in one of the memory chips, which will safely keep ACE2 from working.

So once again, fix the computer first, and only then insert new equipment.

  • Very interesting....thank you for the reply.......Thank you
