  • Need some assistance folks! I recently purchased the latest P96 software, after having used the original Village Tronic drivers that came on the floppy disks of my Picasso II card.

    Here are my specs:

A4000/040 running AmigaOS 3.2.1, Picasso II card, connected on a 15-khz NEC Multisync LCD1970VX monitor, no scandoubler. 2mb Chip, 16mb Fast.

So as mentioned, I used to run the original Village Tronic drivers (http://de6.aminet.net/docs/rview/PicassoII.txt) and decided I'd support the P96 project and purchase the latest software.

Installation was easy and without any issues. After a reboot, I went into Picasso96Mode to try different resolutions and while 640x480 works great, I cannot get 800x600 to work as it did with the old software/drivers. I am thinking that maybe it has something to do with the khz selection during installation? I left it at the default 31khz, there was nothing like this in the installation of the original Village Tronic floppies.

    Any assistance would be appreciated!

  • Please make sure to use the latest versions. Unfortunately, the shop system is currently down, but the latest you should have is P96 V3.2.1. I still have access to single orders, so if you let me know your order ID, I can send out the latest version (including some fixes due to be published this weekend), although I do not see anything like this mentioned in the changes list.

This looks more like a mix of drivers, possibly the old driver mixed with the new rtg lib. I suggest a clean re-install (uninstall the old, then install the new archive) to be sure that there's no mix-up.

  • Hi Jens - This was using the latest V3.2.1 on a clean install of AmigaOS3.2, which brings me back to the KHz selection during install. Should I have selected something other than the default 31khz?

  • I don't know the details of the PII card, but if you're going for 800x600, then 31kHz is too low. Using 36 MHz puxel clock, you get to 35-ish kHz, and with 40MHz pixelclock (which I believe is the standard), you're slightly above 37kHz horizontal frequency. So yes, a 31kHz setting may get in your way.
