  • Hi!

I bought an ACA500+ about 3 months ago and i'm really happy with the possibility of having a better CPU, a lot of RAM, a custom Kickstart and harddrive support in my Amiga 500 (rev 6A with 512K trapdoor update), but i recently encountered a nasty problem with the game Jim Power in Mutant planet.

The game simply crashes ramdonly, although you can play a bit before. When this happens, no "Guru meditation" error comes, the Amiga simply reboots.

I have tried with a basic Amiga 500 configuration and running a copy a found in the net in Workbench v2.04 with WHDLoad.

When i run the game with WHDLoad, i always get the same error when the game crashes: "Ilegal instruction ($E010) at $1DFC"

The game runs perfect (at least i can finish the first level without trouble) if i run it from my Gotek with the ACA500+ disconnected.

I include some photos of my current configuration along with the link for the game in WHDLoad format for testing.

Thanks in advance for any help!

  • The 68010 CPU will be switched off by the ACA500plus, so no trouble to be expected from the "differnt CPU".

Please try to run the game from your floppy emulator using the cloaking device option. If that works, you're simply looking at a bad copy of the game.

  • Jim Power the whdload version seems to work fine here. I played it for 10 minutes probably. Or do I need to do a longer test? My Specs are ACA 500+ and A500 Plus (replica board) with 2mb chip RAM.

For this test I hit F1 from the ACA 500 plus menu. The slave version for Jim Power was version 1.1. I believe I am using whdload version 18.6.

  • Hi!

Thanks for your replies. I sorry for the link to the WHDLoad version.

My A500 has the stock 68000, so it should be fully compatible.

I have tested the floppy version (both cracked and IPF versions, this one coverted to HFE) from the cloaking expert options menu and from the A500 config menu (the one that let you boot with kickstart 1.2 and 1.3 and various RAM settings).

Same error. The game crashes at first level after picking the shield at the point where you find the first dragon or ramdonly afterwars if you skip the power-up.

Only when i disconnected the accelerator, and booted the HFE floppy, i was able to finish the first level without crashes.

I find this quite strange because is the first game where i found this issue. I have played for a while HD version of Ambermoon and cracked floppy versions of Shadow of the Beast and Cool Spot with the accelerator and without problems...

Also, i tested the cracked games with WinUAE and a base A500 config with no errors.

I even though running a memtest from Workbench 2.05, with the accelerator connected, to see if there is any RAM issue, but i don't know of any program to do this in Amiga.

    See ya!

P.D: I have been trying to run HRTMon and Action Replay, but i haven't found how. I enable in the menu HRTMon (CXD), for example, set HRTMon to the 3.0s button, but i don't know what button to push ingame (i have tried with the left mouse button but no luck, i think i'm doing things wrong).

The cloaking device mode allows leaving AR3 emulation activated - maybe Jim Power has a detection routine and crashes becaus eit detects AR3?

The crash happens in Chip ram, so it's not accelerator-related mem.

"3s" means "keep the DisMo button pressed for 3s or more, then release". Only after release, the button event is executed.

  • Oh my god... I was sure i needed to press a key in the computer, not in the ACA 😅...

About the AR3, i tested the game mostly without having it activated.

I have tried two more games in the cloaked mode, Yo! Joe! and Xenon II. First level finished in both, with cheats and without, and no crashes.

I simply don't understand what happens with Jim 🤷🏼‍♂️...

The IPF (converted to HFE) i'm using is the one you can find at http://www.oldgamesfinder.com (i just posted the URL for showing what i'm using).

    Thanks for your time! 🙂
