  • Hi Jens,

I installed today the Indivision ECS V2 in my A500

My screen is an old Philipps LCD television (1440 x 900; 16:9) connected with VGA.

The quality is good but not the best (because old LCD), I connected it also on my Benq BL702a wich gives a much better quality.

Now the little problem is that the Benq is sold-out everywhere or the price is very high.

    I was looking now to buy a new monitor (1280 x 1024; 5:4) and I've found the "iiyama e1780sd-b1"

Before I buy, I just want to know if it will work with the Indivision ECS V2 (Vertical Sync says 55 - 75 Hz), is this within the specs of the Indivision ECS V2?

Here are the specs of that monitor:

    DISPLAY CHARACTERISTICS

    Diagonal 17", 43cm
    Panel TN LED, matte finish
    Native resolution 1280 x 1024 (1.3 megapixel)
    Aspect ratio 5:4
    Brightness 250 cd/m² typical
    Static contrast 1000:1 typical
    Advanced contrast 12M:1
    Response time (GTG) 5ms
    Viewing zone horizontal/vertical: 170°/160°, right/left: 85°/85°, up/down: 80°/80°
    Colour support 16.7mln (sRGB: 99%; NTSC: 72%)
    Horizontal Sync 24 - 80kHz
    Vertical Sync 55 - 75Hz
    Viewable area W x H 337.9 x 270.3mm, 13.3 x 10.6"
    Pixel pitch 0.264mm

Do you have any news about the successor to the ACE2?

That's next on my wish list 👀😀

  • Do you have any news about the successor to the ACE2?

In production, and even the new PLCC84-adapters arrived from their railway journey over the "new silk road" (first time I have used a train to import from Asia). I'm confident that ACE2b makes it to the Xmas trees.

  • Wonderfull news this 🎅🏻🎄🎅🏻

The iiyama e1780sd-b1 is a return to sender, not 100% convinced with the quality of the image, a bit too much ghosting.

Just found 1 BenQ BL702a and bought it.

  • Will the ACE2b be bigger in size than the previous model?

Yes, slightly bigger, as the PLCC84 adapter socket I have designed is now a through-hole part for stability reasons. As a result, the Agnus chip is "next to" the original Agnus socket, making the board almost twice as big as the first incarnation of ACE2. However, it's lower-profile, which makes it more compatible with other expansions that may need to go over the Agnus chip (such as internal accelerators).

Will update the product page next week. SMT production is completed, and I'll hand-assemble the first unit from mass-production on Monday. When that's successful, THT mass-assembly can start, and we will most likely have these shipping before Xmas.

  • Hi,

    This is exciting news :thumbup::)

I have a giant in size 2mb MegaChip and I did a sort of dry test run today in order to see if the Indivision ECS V2 would fit.

The answer so far is: Maybe, perhaps, if I use two risers. I might need to swap the MegaChip in a smaller size, like the ACE2b (therefore I was curious of the size) or use the other advice you gave, that is use the socket adapter for Indivision.

Perhaps the new ACE2b is half the size of this MegaChip?

    Best Regards
    Hans Arvid

  • Yes, ACE2b is much smaller - not sure if I can claim "half size", but probably close to that.

On another note, I haven't seen this type of 2M chip ram expansion before. Using the 8372B Agnus looks like a waste, as that Agnus type is really rare and probably worth "a lot" for A3000 users who are looking for one. So you buying an ACE2b could serve more than just one Amiga user, as you can sell the unit to an A3000 user who might resurrect his machine with the Agnus chip from your expansion.

  • Quick snap of one of the PCBs from yesterday's soldering test - for size comparison:

Since the PLCC84 adapter socket is my own design (a true custom component made for iComp, designed from scratch), yesterday was a particularly exciting moment when these components ran through wave soldering for the first time. We adjusted the parameters (transport speed, pre-heat and wave height) until the capillary attraction of the solder-holes for the PLCC84 adapter was perfect. Soldering of all units takes place either today or tomorrow.

Low-profile: This final version, which had to be "elevated" from the prototype (the green thing that I held into the camera during the Amiwest interview), as the Agnus socket needs to clear a few chips in most Amigas where this can be installed. This of course made the pins of the PLCC84 adapter socket even shorter, which in turn makes wave soldering much more difficult, but the good news is that I have the right partners with the right knowledge and equipment - it didn't take long yesterday afternoon until we found the right setting.

Numbers: While the old ACE2 was 18.1mm at the highest spot above the main board, this new version (called ACE2b) is only 14.7mm high at the highest point - and that's the pins of the Agnus socket, which could even be trimmed if hight is really an issue.

The board-cut-out not only makes it fit with Indivision ECS (V2) in a Rev-6-A2000 (as in the picture), but also gives way to an electrolytic capacitor in one of the A500 versions. I'll take more pictures and enable ordering either today or tomorrow (need to complete monthly taxes first!).

  • Thx Jens for this ACE2b update.
